The GPA, or Grade Point Average, is a numerical representation of your average scores in courses, typically on a scale from 0 to 4. This is one of the most used grading systems used across different countries.
Now, grading systems vary across educational institutions and countries, each with its unique method of evaluating student performance.
To calculate your GPA according to the specific grading system, use the GPA Calculator and choose the Grading System.
Different Grading Systems
Here’s an overview of some common types of grading systems:
Percentage System
Assigns grades based on the percentage of points earned out of the total possible points. Example: A score of 85% would typically translate to a 'B' grade.
Letter Grade System
Assigns letter grades such as A, B, C, D, or F based on performance. Example: An 'A' typically represents excellent performance, while an 'F' indicates failure.
Alpha Numeric System
Combines letters and numbers to denote performance levels. Example: 'A+', 'A', 'A-', 'B+', 'B', 'B-', etc., each representing a specific range of performance.
Pass/Fail System
Determines whether a student passes or fails a course without assigning letter grades. Example: A student either receives a passing grade or a failing grade without further distinction.
GPA Conversion Chart
To convert grades from these systems to GPA, each letter grade or percentage range is assigned a numerical value, typically on a 4.0 scale. See the chart below for a better understanding:
