1. Additional Credits Calculation
To manually calculate the number of additional credits needed to raise your GPA, use the following formula:
Additional Credits = Cc × Gr⁄(Gf - Gc - Gr)
Where:
- Gc = Current GPA
- Cc = Current Credits
- Gr = Raise GPA
- Gf = Maintain GPA [** This GPA must be more than (Current GPA + Raise GPA). If it is less than that, the additional GPA field will be blank. And a warning will appear.]
Example Calculation
Suppose you have:
- Current GPA (Gc) = 3.4
- Current Credits (Cc) = 10
- Raise GPA (Gr) = 0.2
- Maintain GPA (Gf) = 3.65
Calculate the additional credits needed:
Additional Credits = 10 × 0.2⁄(3.65 - 3.4 - 0.2) = 40
You would need to complete 40 additional credits to raise your GPA by 0.2 points.
2. Maintain Final GPA Calculation
To calculate the GPA required in a specific number of credits to maintain your desired GPA, use the following formula:
Maintain GPA = [{(Gc + Gr) × (Cc + Ca)} - (Gc × Cc)]⁄Ca
Where:
- Gc = Current GPA
- Cc = Current Credits
- Gr = Raise GPA
- Ca = Additional Credits
Example Calculation
Suppose you have:
- Current GPA (Gc) = 3.5
- Current Credits (Cc) = 10
- Raise GPA (Gr) = 0.1
- Additional Credits (Ca) = 25
Calculate the GPA required this semester:
Maintain GPA = [{(3.5 + 0.1) × (10 + 25)} - (3.5 × 10)]⁄25 = 3.64
You would need a GPA of 3.64 this semester to achieve your desired GPA increase.
